PROGRAM OVERVIEW

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

NYL is a boys' field lacrosse program which plays in the Massachusetts Youth Lacrosse league (MYL), the largest community-based youth field lacrosse league in the United States.  League play through NYL comprises two programs in the spring season, Classic, for grades 1-8, and Select, for grades 5-8.

NYL also provides and facilitates lacrosse training and education opportunities year-round for boys and girls from ages 3-8 and in grades 1-4.  Click on the tabs for SCOOPS/LEARN TO LAX and WINTER PROGRAMS to learn more.

Grades 1-8: Classic Program

In the CLASSIC program, all players participate equally (equal playing time) regardless of skill.  Brand new players at ANY grade level are welcome!  Where we field multiple teams at a grade level, these teams are designed to be evenly balanced – there are NO "A" or "B" teams, and all teams practice together by grade level.

CLASSIC teams are coached mostly by parent volunteers, but skills practices are provided for every level weekly with a professional coach.  Games are held on Sundays against nearby towns. There are no rankings and no playoffs for CLASSIC, the emphasis is on learning and fun!

Grades 5-8: Select Program

NYL SELECT is an additional & complementary playing opportunity for older players looking for more lacrosse and an additional challenge. Select players MUST also play on a CLASSIC team for their age group, and will have one additional practice per week and an additional game, usually on Friday nights, against other towns' SELECT teams.  SELECT teams are coached and trained by a combination of experienced parent volunteers and professional coaches. Tryouts will be held for this program. SELECT is a supplement to,  not a replacement for, a player’s participation in the CLASSIC league.

MYL SELECT has Division Standings, Playoffs, and a Championship game.  Select players are also eligible to be chosen for MYL's Single-Grade All-Star Teams, which play an All-Star game each summer.
